So my machine choked up on Saturday night. I knew it was coming. It’s been stuttering and having issues for a few weeks now. It’s a basic machine with a few nice features – perfect for the hobby sewer. Unfortunately, I’ve gone from hobby sewer to obsessive quilter and my little Brother just can’t keep up with me. I’ve been having an issue with the bobbin case wiggling out of place after I’ve been doing a lot of sewing, and it finally wiggled out enough to get stabbed with the needle as I was piecing some new blocks. It left quite a big hole in the bobbin case and considering that you aren’t even supposed to use a scratched bobbin case, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sew until I found a replacement case.
But instead of wallowing in my sewing trauma, I decided to try English paper piecing. I made about a dozen hexagons last night and I have big plans for them. Someday I would like to make a quilt like this:
Isn’t that quilt so lovely? She used American Jane fabrics, which are just perfect for such a vintage-style quilt. I’m going to start small with my hexagons, probably a table runner and some pillows…but one day, I will make a full-fledged quilt!
[P.S. I got a new bobbin case today. AND, I tried a new machine at the shop - an Elna 7300 PRO Quilting Queen. I won't make any decisions until October, but this machine has the right price tag and the right features so it's going on my list.]
